About Me
Mylinh Hamlington, M.L.I.S.
I am a back-of-the-book indexer living in Altadena, California. Before coming to indexing I worked in public libraries for over 14 years. My family and I have lived in many different areas in the US from the mountains of Colorado to the shorelines of Virginia and California. Most of my library career has been spent in Youth and Family Services doing everything from storytimes, programming, circulation, collection development, and reference, to managing entire departments. I taught for a few years as an adjunct professor at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA. teaching a graduate class titled “Children’s Literature Across the Curriculum, PK – 8th.” I have also previously led library staff teams and trainings in Cultural Competencies and other Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion topics.
I am Black and Vietnamese (although I unfortunately do not speak Vietnamese or any other non-English language besides a minimal amount of Spanish). My mother was a Vietnamese refugee and my great-great-grandfather was Booker T. Washington. I was born in Denver, Colorado and have lived in the United States my entire life.
In addition to my experiences in libraries and working with children and families, my interests include deep research into very random topics, travel, and crafts of all kinds – including but not limited to pottery, needlework, fiber crafts, and sewing.
My indexing interests and specialties include child development, literacy, parenting, education, library sciences, psychology, folktales and mythology, travel and culture, DEI and social justice topics, how-to books, crafting, photography, dance, and children’s books.
Please contact me even if your book topic is outside of these specialties and we can discuss if it would be a good fit. As a former public librarian I am a generalist and love research, so I will be able to produce a quality index for a wide assortment of books.
